Description

The Poinsett Bridge was built in 1820 as part of the state road leading from Charleston to the Blue Ridge Mountains. Constructed of heavy stone, the structure is one of the oldest bridges still standing in SC. It was commissioned by Joel R. Poinsett and built by Abram Blanding. The bridge extends 130 feet over Little Gap Creek and features a 14-foot Gothic arch.
